Hi, I'm Scott Swinson

Living by the Ocean for the past 15 years has taken me away from mountains, which were often my subject matter when I lived in the UK, and created a love and drive to represent the sea in all its moods and colours.
In some ways this course, and what I feel I want to pass on, will never be finished, as I will always be learning and evolving my skill, my understanding and my connection to this subject matter and place. Living next to the Royal National Park, just south of Sydney gives me access to a rugged coast line and space to feel alone and to connect and create. If there was one gift that we could give anyone who paints, it would be time with your paints on location, observing nature as it changes every second, every minute.Â
I have been painting in watercolour for over 35 years, but feel I have just begun. In that time I have travelled widely throughout Europe, America, Canada and South America, always with the intention of immersing myself in nature, climbing mountains and capturing light with my camera and later in my paintings.Â
I will always be grateful for Tony Smibert and his teaching and generoisty. He taught me from a very young age and always had time for me. He is an amazing human! If you can ever get hold of any of his amazing books, then you should!Â
I have studied JMW Turner's original paintings at the Prints and Drawings Room at the Tate Britain over many years while I lived in London. He was such a master of painting light!
It has been a gradual evolution of visiting many galleries and observing art that inspired me and then working out how I might go about capturing that essence in my own painting.
I have held group and solo exhibitions in galleries in London, Sydney, Wollongong (NSW), Hobart (Tasmania), Hounville (Tasmania) and Deloraine (Tasmania).Â
I have been teaching watercolour now for a number of years and my passion for this medium grows with me! Let me introduce you to seascapes. To loose watercolour painting and paintings that tend towards abstraction. Let me save you many years of not knowing things about composition, about perspective, about colour mixing and about painting loosely. You can continue to befriend this medium and grow as an artist!Â
Happy painting!Â
Scott
